Dr. El Shawa graduated from San Francisco State University with his B.S. in Biology and M.S. in Physiology and Behavioral Biology with honors. He received his Ph.D. from the University of California, Riverside in Neuroscience where he received several grants and awards to research the effects of prenatal ethanol exposure on intraneocortical circuitry, cortical gene expression, and behavior. Prior to joining Alpha Genomix Laboratories, Dr. El Shawa was an Assistant Professor at the American University of the Middle East as well as Adjunct Faculty for the University of California, Riverside and California State University, Dominquez Hills. He is the co-first author on various high impact peer-reviewed publications. Dr. El Shawa is an Affiliate Science member of the American College of Medical Genetics and Genomics as well as a member of the Society of Neuroscience and the Society of Integrative and Comparative Biology.

Richard brings over 18 years of sales experience with a passion for building new markets and dynamic sales teams within the IT and Healthcare Industries. Richard has a successful track record in launching disruptive technology where he has designed and implemented sales strategies to create new markets while winning significant market share from incumbents . Richard has achieved numerous accolades and awards including Multiple President’s Clubs, Legacy Club, and Regional Business Manager of the year in 2010. In addition, Richard developed and executed a sales and marketing strategy that grew a small lab in Georgia to a national diagnostic company with 600% growth and 30,000 specimen per month in less than two years. Richard graduated from Furman University with a Bachelors of Arts in Political Science in 1998 and participated in the Vanderbilt University Owens School of Business Executive Leadership Program 2003-2004.

Dr. Tariq Adwan

Dr. Adwan graduated from Misericordia University with his B.S. in Biology and Chemistry with honors. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Colorado from the program of Cell Biology, Stem Cells and Development where he also did his postdoctoral fellowship. His research focused on understanding the molecular mechanism underlying salivary gland dysfunction in Head and Cancer patients. While a graduate student and a postdoctoral fellow, Dr. Adwan received a number of grants and awards including the National Institute of Health’s National Research Service Award. In addition, Dr. Adwan is a co-author on a number of high impact peer reviewed publications and was invited to present his work at a number of scientific meetings, including the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology Conference on Lipid Mediated Signaling in Cancer. Before Joining Alpha Genomix, Dr. Adwan worked as an assistant professor at An-Najah National University, School of Medicine.

Dr. Prabha Karan

Dr. Karan brings with him over thirty years research experience ranging in scientific modalities. He specialized in structural bioinformatics with seventy peer-reviewed publications to his credit. During his career he has been funded by various entities including the Heart Foundation, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, the US Army and Air Force biotechnology grant, and the National Institute of Health. His anti-sickling compound for sickle cell anemia is still one of the most potent compounds in the literature to date. He has won numerous awards over his career including a NATO competition for peptide sequencing. At Alpha Genomix, as part of scientific leadership team, Dr. Karan has run various genotype programs to evaluate the genotype and subsequently phenotype frequencies of various patient populations. Dr. Karan has also mentored numerous thesis students and is instrumental in the research career development at Alpha Genomix.
